21.11.2021: The days where one can go flying are getting rare, which is a clear indication that the year is slowly coming to an end. Today the weather forecast predicted a small chance of the fog clearing in the plains, which usually means that it might clear in most places, with the exception of Lommis. To my surprise it however cleared around noon where I live, and a quick check of the webcam in Lommis confirmed blue sky conditions even there, so off I went for yet another Sunday afternoon flight.

When I took off all looked fine, …

… but then I noticed that a thick layer of fog persisted nearly everywhere else, except in our area. That is truly unusual, I can’t remember ever having had such views.

On the picture below one would typically see the Walensee, but all I could see was what we call a Nebelmeer in Swiss German, or sea of fog. I took these pictures at around 15:00, but the shadows of the mountains were already pretty long. Sunset today was already at 16:45.

Below the city of St. Gallen, with lake of Constance also hidden under the layer of fog.

Heading back towards Lommis I passed a funny hot air balloon, in the shape of a gaz bottle.

I always kept Lommis in sight, so that I would see the fog coming back, but it remained clear until sunset. The row of hangars in Lommis can be seen on the picture below, in the centre of the bottom half, with the layer of fog only a short distance to the north.

Below a picture I took only tow or three miles north of Lommis, confirming how close the fog actually was.
